New Prop for my old Volvo Penta

I've got a 20' bowrider with a 5.7 ltr motor and 275 volvo oudrive. I bought the boat this spring and used the prop that it came with as all my money went to keeping it running!!!

Now its running good and I'm going to buy a new prop. the prop on the boat now is a Long hub 14x21. I have to admit its the ugliest prop I've ever seen on a boat. Sorry no pics. All the blades are kind of mushroomed over and one looks like a big muskie took a bit out of it.

Given all that, It still performs pretty well.

The prop guy just laughed and said keep it for a spare, not repairable.

I'm wondering how a new prop will effect performance/WOT RPMs. the old prop is a bit slow out of the hole but runs up to 4400 (Boat Tach) which is about where I want to be.

Will a new prop slip less and lower my WOT?

I'd like to maximize my hole shot without going over 4400-4500 RMP @ WOT.

There's not a lot of choices for the older VP outdrive. Three Blade Aluminum seems to be the choice.

As always, opinions are appreciated!!!

Re: New Prop for my old Volvo Penta

A new prop will improve performance overall.

I use a 14 x 21 most of the time, although for pulling a skier I have switched
to a 14 x 19. The 14 x 19 will improve hole shot slightly, but decrease the top end.

If your motor is tuned, I think you should do well with another 14 x 21 for everything.

Good luck.
