When winterizing the boat for the winter storage, the boat shop guy told me that I was starving my boat of speed with the prop that I have on the boat. I have a 1995 Bayliner Capri with a 5.0L V8 Mercruiser. The speedometer will read just under 50mph on smooth water, throttle wide open.

I want my boat to have all the ability she can get and was wondering what I should look for when shopping for a new prop. What types, brands, pitch angles, make, metal type, 3 wing or 4 wing prop.

Most importantly, what types will fit my boat?

Off course the boat shop is willing to do it for me but I have really grown fond of my arm and leg over the past few years and am not really willing to part with them just yet.

Since the shop guy has no idea what the performance of your boat is, what the typical load is, what the observed wide open throttle is, and where you boat, he has no ability to tell you what prop you should run. that is why you should read the READ THIS FIRST sticky at the top of this forum.

Re: New Prop Questions

If wer're going to do this right we will need your wot rpm and speed and the prop size.
without rpm and prop size speed really means nothing.
