New prop tested, are these results correct for my motor/setup?

1. My performance issue was I wanted more bow lift and increased overall top-end speed. I have that the bow lift and a lot of it but I have lost 1mph.
2. Current prop is a Turbo1, 3-blade polished stainless steel(vented) This prop has a good rake and progressive pitch
3. Current prop diameter is a 13-1/4" 17-pitch
4. WOT is currently 5,000rpm at 37-38mph (GPS). Average load is (2) full 6gal tanks, 3 batteries, driver (myself) and fishing gear (no more than 25-30lbs)
5. Engine is a 1979 Evinrude V4, 85hp, model 85999R
6. Boat is a 1979 Cane Cutter modified V tri-hull, 15.2ft long, weighing around 800lbs (no motor?)

My previous prop was a 19-pitch SST2 or basically little rake and little to no cup. The prop would not allow full trim and would not lift the bow enough to keep from pushing most of the hull. It ran 5,000-5,100rpm at 39mph (GPS).

The new Turbo1 give excellent bow lift. I have over half of the hull out of the water now and the hull rides on the pad like it should. Similar to a high performance bass boat. The drawback is the rpm range did not increase as I expected due to dropping from a 19 to a 17 and creating less drag from the hull. The RPM range is the same and the speed is essentially the same (-1mph).

I can run full trim with only 8% slip and the prop holds well. If I run full trim, then bump it down a little bit, I can reach 38mph and acheive 5% slip based on the online prop calculator.

Hole shot is great but the top end could use some help. I really like the prop and prefer to keep it vs. paying the $40 swap fee.

Can I raise the motor up 1-2 notches without risking damage or undue stress to the transom? If I can, will that increase the rpm range up to 5,400 (200 per inch) as well as increase the speed by 3-4mph?

Will raising the motor also increase my slip ratio? I prefer to not get over 8% slip. Logic tells me, I have to increase the slip in order to increase the rpm, am I wrong?

Thank you! Iboats forum has been a tremendous help to me on my project boat.:D

The SST II should have pretty good cup but the T-1 will indeed run a higher X dimension. Raise the motor and retest, you have a good baseline now. You've made one change at a time which is the correct procedure.
