Hi all, I am buying a new boat coming from out of state (Louisanna to Texas). The current LA registeration runs out in Feb. Am I supposed to register the boat in Texas as soon as I take ownership or can I use it for the remainder of the LA registration? If I do need to immediately re-regerister, am I allowed to use it on Texas waters while it is being processed?

Yes, you should be registered in your state and in your name immediately after you purchase the boat. Im not positive about Texas law but you shouldnt have a problem using the boat with proper documentation aboard the vessel while in use.

Re: New Registration

In Maryland it is required that you register boats within 30 days of owenership or they can fine you and it is a simple thing here just walk into DNR and 20 minutes later walk out with regestration in hand. and the DNR Police dont like to find owners with out of state boates here
not sure of the fine for it but I am sure they have one, they have fines for everything else.

TTU, Go to www.tpwd.state.us/

Should have all the info to help you along with registration of your new rig. Get ready to put out some big bucks, title fee for boat, title for motor, sales tax.

I bought an old fiberglass rig just for the motor and decided to fix up the boat since I was going to have a spare motor...Probally a boat that was worth 75.00 cost me 70.00 to registar.

Thanks for all of the info. I wonder just how much the state makes on every boat in its lifetime. I'd be willing to bet more than it's final selling price.
