rebuilding a '79 3 cyl. 70 horse, had to replace a rod, noticed it's not same weight (or appearance) as original. It is an OMC part.I was told they did away with the oil holes in top hole in'88, new oil design, weight isn't an issue.I know they match piston weights, why not rod? I like things balanced, any input? thanks

Dhadley is the man to answer that one.....I know there are many different rods that can be used together, and like you, I feel they should be close in balance, not only total weight, but end-to-end as well...see what DH or some of the others feel.

When you say they're not the same -- what is the diffence? Theres a pretty wide tolerence. Especially if youre not going over 7000.
