Im thinking of buying a 115 evinrude with 120PSI on 3 cyl and 80psi on the other cylinder. I know its a crapshot but im thinking the one cylinder needs new rings and/or new rings on the whole thing.

If there are no holes in the cylinder sleeve would it be worth buying and re-ring and re-berring..

seller wants 500$ for the motor.

thanks.. its not a ficht

.

depends on the condition of the pistons and cyl walls

how do they look?

Re: New Rings 98 115 SPL

well before i buy it im going to peal off the head.

is it possible a stuck ring is causing the lower compression on that cylinder, maybe i could just decarb it..

the seller said the motor would only idle when warm, and didnt run good. so he bought an etec. repair was not attemepted. head was never off to be examined.

what do you guys think?

It all depends on what's tore up - you could probably get your $500 back parting it out if it turns out it's going to cost more time and effort than you want to spend to fix it. If you get lucky and it's a stuck ring, then you just got a steal. How lucky are you feeling?:D

I wouldn't jump right to resleeving until you know .040 won't clean it up or it's cracked. Be sure to use a machine shop that's used to working on outboards. Some automotive machine shops get in trouble pretty easy with outboards. If you need contact info for marine machine shops just let us know.

Re: New Rings 98 115 SPL

The shop I'm using over here quoted $150 to resleeve, plus the cost of the sleeve (around $150 from what I saw online).

$42.50 per cylinder to bore, but if you've done a lot of car work you're probably getting a better deal than I am:)

Sounds like a fun project!
