If you're a Yamaha fan like me, this is something to get excited about. I bought my first Yamaha in 1986. It was a 90, 3 cyl copy of the old Evinrudes of the past. I ran that motor long and hard for ten years. It never saw a shop or a dealer.

The only repair it ever needed was when the steering tube seized up and froze. I spent a few hours freeing it up, used a brake hone to clean it out and added the grease nipple to the end of the tube.

All I ever did to that motor was what the dealer suggested. Always flushed it, every time. As it was running the fuel line was removed and the motor was allowed to run dry.
When done, it got a liberal dose of WD-40 both inside and outside of the motor.

It got new plugs and an impeller every other year, if I remembered.

It never skipped a beat, never failed me. I did drain the battery down once while out at sea. The pull rope was attached to the underside of the cowl. Never thought it would start, but one good pull and I was off again.

I have been a big Yamaha fan ever since that first one back then.

So...this is a big deal. Not since Mercury's Verado has there been such excitement over a motor. It will be neat seeing them finally on boats and reading Yamahas detailed performance results for them.
