Hi all, I have purchased a second hand starter and have bolted it on the the block, wiring diagram from supplier was good and surprisingly simple, now my questions are, firstly the new fly wheel with the teeth, doesn't seem to sit down as far on the shaft as the other one did. With the shaft bolt tightened, the fly wheel seems to sit about 1/2 inch (10-15mm)high. Does that matter. The starter cog (not sure of proper name) engages fully but only on the bottom 1/3 of the cog. I thought it might engage a little higher.
Also I have a unit to charge the battery (might be stator again not sure of the name). The plate that the points sit on accomodates the stator but the wiring all seems to fit down through the one passage. Does the plate have to be removed to install the stator unit. And I'm not exactly sure of which wires go where.
There are a few yellow wires and two bluey grey wires with plugs on the end. I've had to remove the plugs to get it off the old plate.
Cheers
Joe

Joe.... You've either got the wrong flywheel or do not have it installed properly. It must be at the exact position/height, not 1/64" higher or lower.

Also, that flywheel nut must absolutely be torqued to exactly 105 foot pounds.

The wiring? Contact me via my email address below and remind me what this is about.

The flywheel seems be very high. The starter seems to be slipping off the bottom after 2-3 seconds of turning. Its properly fitted so my guess is that its not the right fly wheel. The old one that came off sits much lower. It still starts and runs however. Why can it not sit 1/64th high or low. I notice the nut is sitting half off the top. That might be a problem.
