1st, make sure your outboard has the proper tube to convert it, if not there are conversion kits out there to make it a teleflex. The drum style needs to be taken out first, you need to take the cover off the wheel (In the center) take off the nut, which coud be stick on real well, so use some penetrating oil to free it, dont hit the thread if you plan on re purposing it. Take the cables off the back of the unit under the dash, and it should come free. Installing a new teleflex is straight forward. If you motor is not equipped with the tubing needed for it, you can buy a conversion kit (shown in pictures) Im not sure the price.

If you have any question, feel free to ask.
