Ok, heres the boat, a 65 16' winner. engine is a 1991 20 hp Long shaft johnson

I got the hole and rot all patched and sealed up:

Next on the to do list is steering, it currentley uses the cable & pulley system.

So the engine is a tiller setup. I went to my local boat dealership today to order a single cable teleflex no feedback steering system with the cable throughn tile tube set up, however i learned i cannot do that:

Tiller motors dont have the hole in the tile tube to allow that.

So I guess these are my options:

Re: New steering system, thoughts, advice and experence please

where would i get thoes brackets to allow for that? which is better than the other?

and is there a more wallet friendly way of doing this? I Would like to spend less than $300 on my needed steering system. even if its an el cheapo rotary system with feedback ill be happy, i just need a way to steer it,

other isue:

will I need a high jack plate? If so, how eill that work out with my needed steering system?

The origional steering needs a new hub, cables, pulleys and springs before it might work again.

I dont know if i want to try to hunt down 1960's parts

I will take the cable and pully steering on my invader over the power steering on my 20 footer any day.

In that pic, how does the cable attach to the outboard?
how does the cable attach to the transom?

Is this complete kit really 'complete' as nothing really explains how its installed, or what else is needed, or even how it attaches.

Something like this?...

They fit under your clamps and then you can use rotary or r&p.
