I have a 1991 Fisher SV-18GT Bass/Walleye boat with a 90 HP Merc OB.
When I'm trolling the vibration of the motor spins the steering wheel and turns the boat when I let go of the wheel to set my down riggers/planer boards etc.
Will one of the Teleflex No Feed Back units stop this from happening?
If it will what are the advantages of the rack and pinion over the rotary if any?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: New Steering System

It is the other way around, rotary is way better than rack and pinion.

The boat runs straight when you are running and just does this at trolling speeds or it wants to turn all the time?

I doubt the trim tab would have much affect at that slow of a speed so it is probly prop walk, kind of like a paddle boat, the prop blades are "walking" through the water.
I have a Teleflex rotary no feed back on mine and it doesn't do that at any speed, whether that would hold true with you boat I don't know.

Which do you have on your boat now, rotary or a rack?

either the rotary or rack no feed back should solve the problem. check it out, i believe you can just change the helm, and use the existing cable, if in good condition. they rotary system is much more user friendly and easier to install and service.

Yes it only does it trolling, on plane you can let go of the wheel and it runs straight. The old 2stroke shake does it.

Thanks, I thought that would fix me up. :p
