Hey Everybody,

Just wondering if someone "in the know" could verify this for me?

I just got off the phone with a marine place that is installing a transom kit for me. In our conversation he stated that the new gimbal bearings from Merc are a non greaseable sealed bearing. Is this true? Not a big deal, just want to make sure he's not installing a wheel bearing or something like that.

Oh, it's a Alpha One Gen 2 drive.

Thanks,

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it!

I was just a little nervous as this is the first time I'm having work done on my boat at marine place. I usually do things myself. When he threw the perma lube bearing thing at me I was like hmm, never heard of that critter before.

So were all good. Thanks again.

Just make sure they remove the grease nipple (that was for the old bearings) and install the plug that comes in the kit...

achris, thanks a bunch for mentioning that! I would never have known.

If in the event they leave the grease zerk in and throw away the plug, can I either A) obtain the plug from Merc? Or B) make my own plug? Is the plug threaded with whatever thread is on a grease zerk?

The plug from Merc is not, I believe, available seperately. It's 316L stainless (of course). The Merc one has a T20 Security Tork head, but any plug of the right material and thread would do the job...
