I'm helping a friend install a new Suzuki 140hp 4 stroke on his bay boat. The dealer says to run any kind of 10/40 oil. I suggested that he run Suzuki Oil. The dealer again says any 10/40 will do. Do any forum members have a reccomendation?

Re: New Suzuki 140hp Foursrtoke Oil???

Any approved (by Suzuki) petro 10/40 is fine for break in, Bob. Be sure he doesn't use any synthetic during break in.

After break in of my Suzi I switched to Mobil 1, but I think any oil that meets the specs put forth in the Owner's Manual will do just fine.

While outside advice can be good or bad, the Owner's Manual is your best advisor.

Good luck. :)

We use Chevron 10-40, service manual has different wts for different temps zones. On some engines that see a lot of hours we use 15-40 Chevron delo 400.

Get the October 2004 issue of Trailer Boats Magazine for a story and tests of 4-stroke oils for outboards. It is interesting reading.
