New tach works great but water pressure gauge does not Please help.

I installed my new tach and pressure gauge yesterday . I went to lake today the tach works perfect . The water pressure gauge ( 30 psi teleflex for outboards) Does not show a thing . If I plug pee hose with my finger it jumps up . Sorry I didn't see what it went to. Do I have to bleed the line or what ? Since putting in tee in pee line,the water shoots 3ft or more out of overboard hose. It has new water pump, and excellent wtr. press. I cant find anything in the archives. I'm going to check for kinks, twists etc. in the morning . If there's another explanation other than a feed problem please let me know. The more I think about it , its either the hose or the gauge right? The gauge worked when I restricted the flow at the tell-tale, so whats that tell me? Its kinked, and the extra pressure forces through the problem spot when I block the hose? Does this sound right? Is there a test for a pressure gauge ? What can I hook to it to test the gauge ? A regulated air supply at a middle of the range psi? <br /> Thanks,<br /> KYHunter

When you tee into an open discharge line, you are bleeding pressure right off the guage. Why not put a small restrictor in the end of the discharge line, after all! it's just an indicator.

Why not disconnect the pee hole all together.. If you are hooking up a water pressure gauge you wont really need to look back anymore, you will just need to look at the gauge...<br /><br />Also, that way you are not stealing pressure from the gauge

Welt...tell ya what Idd do if it were me. Idd plug off the telltale good and tite. <br /><br />Yep no pee'er at all. Why...oh why...would I say such uh silly thing. Cause!<br /><br />Its only a visual check at best. No body runs down the river turned around backwards in the drivers seat just so he can watch the telltale.<br /><br />Telltale can be working fine and you can still get an overheat horn. Water from telltale does not go thru block or T..stats. It comes up from water thru pump and rite back out into the river.<br /><br />Now that you have water pressure gage that is your telltale now. And you can sit in drivers seat and look at it without turning around to look at pee stream.<br /><br />Pressure gage still does not stop an over heat. Its just a visual check to see if pump is putting out pressure. Does not tell if water is circulating thru block. Neither did telltale, so whats the diffrience.<br /><br />Pressure gage is just eaiser to keep tabs on.<br /><br />Okee..dokie...! thats my two cents worth!<br /><br />Good luck!

Ok , ok , You crack me up goodoleboy. I had thought about eliminating the pee hole but I think my youngest daughter would have a fit. She loves to watch my motor pee! LMAO . Thanks, and I am going out right now to remove indicator. I'll just rig up a line off my bilge so my boat wont get kidney trouble and my daughter can watch it pee.
