Gee, do you think i need new stats? I thought the starboard head was getting hot during an earmuff run. I figured what the heck, may as well changed the stats.
First of all, it's swine of a job. Second, when i saw them stats, i was stunt to say the least. I thought i'd show you guys a picture.

Re: New thermostat?

Did you test them to see if they still worked?
On another thread I saw someone suggested using lose temporary studs to guide the thermostat cover, plate & gaskets on then replaced each stud with the bolt to finish off.
I haven't had to do stats yet but it sounded like a good idea to me.

Test them in a pot of hot water ... check shop manual for correct opening temp.

Some good detective work. I wouldn't even bother with the old stats. Just put some new ones in.

Fed. I was the one who suggested studs for putting them back in unless somebody else did also. Those thermos are junk. Put in new ones!
