Good day,
I just few months ago purchased a 1984 Thundercraft Magnum 230. I am pretty happy with the deal but I have'nt test drived it yet. A survey was available with boat and I had it verified (electronics & mecanics, motor) before closing the deal. All is OK.
I have a few question in regards to the Thundercraft models.

My boat is a 1984 Magnum 230 with a 260 Merc, I saw 221, Magnum Express, ect. My Magnum 230 is a CC Type with no accessories (no Fridge, no Toilet, no 120V). It's an old heavy/Strong Hull boat in good shape . Is it because it's a Magnum Model 230 (and with all the accessories it would be called Magnum Express) or Magnum Express is a totally different model? Also the Ex-Owner told me the boat's lenght is 23,8 feet. I would have it called a 240 (he add's the Teak Swimboard I guess).
What can I expect in terms of performance (speed, Fuel Consumption, overall boat behaviour on the water (Richelieu River in Quebec,Canada) I've asked all those questions to the seller and I did'nt really know anything about the boat (boating in general). He owned the boat for 2 yrs and used it 2 hours only. He had no $$$ for using the boat.

Unfortunatly, I have not taken pics of the boat, Here in Montreal it's Winter (1feet of snow already) I had the boat verified, Swink and Stored for the Winter. I plan to have it check again before putting the boat on the water next Summer (oil changes again, verify all motor, electronics, mecanics)

Thank you

Good day Bob and Thanks for your reply. Unfortunatly I find that it is hard to get info on ThunderCraft Boats (as your mentionned). But there are lots of ThunderCraft on the water. I had a 1980 Grew 178 that I sold last summer and also had problems getting info on Grew Boats.
Welcome to Quebec next summer!
On witch lake, river do you plan to leave your boat next summer?
Do you have a summer house in Quebec?

Good day. I also am the proud new owner of a Magnum 230. I got it in December so hasn't been on the water yet for me. All appears to be in great shape, the spring will tell. Mine has the 5.7 litre engine so I don't expect to have stellar gas consumption. I will be running mine in the Bay of Quinte, Hay Bay area. All the best --> Rick :)

Re: New Thundercraft Owner

The 230 was a great family boat for a day out on the water. All the ones I saw had a porti potty under the cushions in cuddy cabin. Very solid and stable boat with enough power to pull a skier and high enough freeboard not to worry about youngsters falling over the sides.

The Magnum Express was a little bigger but it was an aft cabin and came with everything you needed for overnight, fridge, stove, head, shore power, etc. Great boats, I've had 2 of them a 1989 Magnum 290, 29 ft with twins and I've still got the 1990 Express 340, 35 ft with twins.
