new to boating and have a question about my motor

I justr bout a fishing boat with a 25h.p. mariner outboard .the motor has only the manual tilt lock and it is not working properly ...dose anny one have anny sugestions that i mite try to release it ?the motor is in the up position

Without seeing it I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but it may just be in a bind. Have you tried pulling up on the bottom of the motor while attempting to release the locking lever? There's not a lot to those things.

yes ive tried lifting up the motor while pulling on the relase leaver but that did not work. i will get some pics of the boat and motor uplaoded asap, i just got the boat on friday so i have time to learn more about it before i got it on the water. i left a message for the person that i got it from to see if he will come show me how he did it. thank you for your responce

First off, let me say I AM NOT trying to be a smart ace or insult you.

You may think about checking into the boaters safety course in your area. If you haven't spent a LOT of time around boats it would really help you alot. Some of us were lucky and grew up around them, so we osmosed a lot of info just being around them.

no offence taken, i have figured out what was wrong. the poblem lies within the pivot point where the motor bracket mounts to the transom.. the boat has sat for a while and the pivot point was dried out. after greasing it and working it loose the motor now is moving freely again... thanks for all the comments and happy boating
