Good day all, joined up the other day hoping to get a little help, and I did, thanx to those who replied.
The help was figuring out how to correct the shifting issue on my Alpha1 gen1. (serial#6683465) 1984....maybe
Shortly after sorting that out and confirming it was good to go I refilled the LU and left the shop.
Went out this morning and there was a puddle of gear lube on the floor. Thinking the little between units o-ring was out of place, I dropped the LU only to see it was were it was supposed to be but the impeller housing was covered will the lube.
Once I completely removed the LU, I noticed the lower drive shaft was wet, and oil dripping from the lower seal in the upper unit.
Now is the space between the two upper seals wet or dry? If dry, I guess I know what I`m doing for-crying-out-loud!!!!
If wet I should be able to remove and replace that lower seal, which by the way was installed the wrong-way-round, wasn`t me I follow directions, I`ll assume the previous owner, as all the gears and everything in there is new. I`ve got a good inkling the upper seal was probably installed wrong-way-round as well.
Let me know what is what, Just hate the thought of removing that upper after spending hours setting the alignment, new boat I built (DeepV16), new engine, rather rebuilt engine install, `84 470.
Looking forward to your replies,
Rick
