hey guys so have a new boat and need some help with the engine. I picked up a 1977 searay cuddy 21' up this morning for free and has been sitting for 8 years. So haven't dug into this too deep yet...just wondering if I should just keep the trailer and find a better boat?? Trailer is in amazing shape minus the tires. Boat needs floor bad and obviously some motor work since I can't get it to turn over. All belts and hoses are cracked or broken...should I just pull it and use for spare parts and find another exact motor to swap in?? any help on this rebuild would be greatly appreciated...interior is completely gone as well so don't even know how to start rebuilding her other than google pics I suppose.

Welcome to IBOATS.

I think you got the right idea: take out anything good and sell the rest and you're way ahead.

Good start.

Yea I think I going to do that...picking up a 21' glastron tomorrow for free w/trailer in 10 times better shape...no motor but better frame to start with just drop motor in and go with the new glastron I am picking up...its longer and deeper than the sea ray and its got build in livewells and a plastic floor instead of fiberglass which means maintenance free!!!
Good call on getting rid of the sea ray!!

HHMMMmmm-- that floor probably has a balsa core. It could be waterlogged, the stringers could be rotten along with the transom. No boat is maintenance free. Most newer small boats have little or no wood any earlier than about 2000 probably has some wood for sure. Beyond 2000 the possibility of no wood increases. Check with the builders.

I believe it says mercruiser 250 on the top...

I have passed the ball on this one anyway I think I am going to give it to a friend or strip it down and keep the motor and parts and try and sell whats good.

I just picked up a 1980 Glastron sea fury 216 in much better shape and its got an outboard instead of an inboard which I am more familiar with anyways.

Now I need help with how to rip out and replace the transom on this hog! Because this amazing fishing vessel will rock the seas again once I am done with it!!
