I'm looking at buying a 2005 Tahoe Q4 with 3.0 Mercruiser from a guy at work. I haven't seen the boat yet but I am a little nervous. I have had no experience with I/O boats. I will definently get a sea trial but is there anything specific to be looking for? Like problem areas for leaks or condition of outdrive? I'm very interested because he says he only wants the payoff for it. $2500. Just wants out of the payments. He has used it this year scalloping in the Gulf, so I know it runs. Any help will be greatly apreciated.

oops! is right, head to the bank. I would tilt the drive all the way up to the trailer position and look at the bellows to make sure they are not cracked, probably not, but worth looking at. There are three, one big, one medium, one small, in order they are, driveshaft, exhaust, and shift cable bellows, they can leak water into the boat. You transport the boat with the drive all the way up in trailer position and store it with the drive all the way down, this is best for the bellows. Pull the dipstick and check the oil, just to make sure it look normal, no water in it. If it looks good, runs good buy it.

I'd jump on it for $2500 so can I have his number? I'm only a hand full of hours away down I-75. If you're wanting a boat this is the deal for you.

Even if the bellows are bad that is only what....less than 800. (high figure). still a bargain. If he is willing to let you sea trial it THAT is a good sign (shows he knows nothing is wrong...or bad wrong with it). Make SURE the hull # matches the one on the title (2500 is DARN cheep for that boat).

Well i'm new to i/o too and when i bought my boat(92 glastron 4.3) the guy got me ,, we fired it up in his garage cause it was raining and it sounded great.I asked him if it rattled or made any noise IN the water and he said oh yeah it runs great, the next day he delivered it,well it runs great for sure but when i steer either way at idle left especially it rattles like the u-joints are gonna fly out!!

Do not buy it without a test run unless it's damn nice looking, which an 05 should..Good luck i have some searching to do.

Re: New to I/O. Need advise.

ohio......your gymbal bearing is gone.......and you more than likely have a bellows problem.....start a thread in the merc i/o forum.

EDIT>>>>>> sorry...not bellows....an impeller problem....he started it in the garage. im guessing this was with out water

to the op........for 2500 you could put a new motor and drive into the boat and still come out ahead.

just go buy it......or ill drive from canada to come get it !.

do it fast before the guy figgures out that he is making a monumental mistake

Just adding another voice to the "do it."

Unless she looks like the very devil on the inside, or there's a hole in the hull - you can probably completely re-power and be ahead of buying that boat from anyone else.

Hope it works out for you.

Heck, I'd want 2500 for my old 86. Even needing an outdrive i would buy it. The 3.0 is a good motor, been around for a while.

Ok, I know it is incredable deal. What I'm wanting is things to checkout before buying. I'm not an I/O person. About repowering and still comming out ahead, I agree but I don't have that kind of money. I can't afford to do alot of work to it.

Oh. and if I decide not to get it, I will let you guys that want it know.
