Guys,

Been running jet boats for a few years and am now back to the world of I/Os. Just bought a new 18' with the 4.3 MPI Mercruiser Alpha1.

On my jet boat the engine flush procedure was a little different. I had to start engine first, then connect water flow.........Remove water then shut off engine. This sequence was to prevent fresh water getting into an open exhaust valve on the new Seadoos.

Whats the nest method for my new 4.3 MPI Alpha1? Do I purchase a set of ear muffs? Can I start flow first then start? Are there quick connect fitting available for this package and if so how do they work?

Thanks in advance!

Ayuh,... Yes,+ Yes... Water MUST be flowing before starting til after stopped...
In other words,... Anytime the outdrive turns, it's gotta be Wet...

Muffs work well.

And you're right - start the water first and turn off the engine before turning off the water.

yep,
Yes,+ Yes... Water MUST be flowing before starting til after stopped...
that's the facts...

be careful. i went from jetskis to i/o's. sure enough i did the procedure backwards at least once before i got in the habit of doing it right for the i/o.

Thanks for the clarification guys! I'll pick up a set of ear muffs. When I run in Salt water would it be a good idea to also use a "Salt-Away" kit? Is it that much more effective over simply flushing with fresh water?
