New to Me 1992 60hp Merc - Get to Know Each Other Phase

Hi All,

This forum is always so full of helpful advice I thought I would post here in hopes of learning something that I hadn't thought of........

I have just purchased a "new to me" single console, 17' aluminum fishing boat.

It has a '92 60 hp Merc (oil injected, on motor resevoir that is functioning properly). From the inspection I did on it at time of purchase it seems to be in well-taked care of shape.

I obtained a service manual which I have started reading through.

As I have no history of the motor what are the recommended procedures/steps I should take to introduce myself to the my new toy and get it ready for the water?

Change lower unit lube and water pump impeller (since you have no idea when it was changed last). Fresh set of spark plugs, fresh fuel, use any of the fuel system treatments like Stabil or SeaFoam and go boating. Keep the oil resevoir at least 1/3 full with any TCW-III branded two stroke oil.
