Hello Errbody
I finally scored a pontoon, cheap.
Of course cheap comes with issues, including the engine; J50PLEEA.

Biggest issue is it not engaging reverse. I watched the cable move back and forth, may not be as smooth as Id like, but does move. I removed the linkage and manually moved the shift lever; N freely spins, F locks, R spins but starts to catch. If I push harder on the lever it starts to lock more. The PO told me and shown me a receipt stating that the shift rod was adjusted and engine was tested functional. Thoughts?

As mentioned above, the control isnt the smoothest operation. No idea where to start here.

What I believe to be the lower unit oil drain screw started leaking heavily after a test ride. It was very loose. Is it known to vibrate lose? Should some sort of sealant be added?

Trim did not work at all, but I did drain fluid and added fresh. Followed some videos on YT and actually got it working, however, it goes up very slow and falls fast. If read a few posts where the manual relief valve was the culprit. Unfortunately I cannot get it to come loose. Impact just bounces, wrench to screwdriver pops the drive out, even tried map gas for a few seconds. Any thoughts here? 435894

There is quite a leak coming from the top and bottom of the shaft that the engine pivots left and right. Sorry I don't know what it's called. This one might be beyond my scope.

I am very mechanically inclined and can follow good directions. Im just super new to the outboard world, and boating in general. I want to learn and understand what Im dealing with, not to mention it seems no one wants to work on them, not that Id trust them in my area anyway. Appreciate any guidance.
