I just picked up a mercury black max 200. I think it is early 80’s. Of course the tag is missing . I did grab a serial number from the freeze plug on the top left head it was 6305370. Can anyone give me more info on this motor? What year? What model number? Thanks in advance for any help.

Also I could not get the separate trim motor off the boat, it was glassed in(who does that?). Does anyone know where I can get just the pump and motor for a reasonable price?

Maxrules shows it as a 1983 model. I would look at the parts diaghrams on the crowleymarine site to make sure.

Try fleabay for the PTT trim pump. Some of the PTT units changed during those early 80s models, so make sure you match it exactly. Can you go back to the original boat with a Sawzall, and get the original PTT pump?

Good engines, but for heavens sake disconnect oil injection if not already. Would be amazed if it was still connected and hasn’t failed yet. Haha.

I can’t saw all the boat. We tried air chisels and a 3 foot pry bar. It would not budge. I will disconnect the oil injection if it is not done yet. All I have done so far is a compression test. It was 120 psi on all 6 cylinders with a stone cold engine and a questionable battery. Time to build an engine stand and do some testing.

The oil mixing system wasn't introduced until the 1984 or 85 model year. A post 1981 200 V6 is pretty much the same as a pre 1982 225hp
That engine does not use cast iron sleeves, the bore is chrome plated Aluminum, so no boring oversize.
142.2 cubic inches, 3 3/8 X 2 5/8 bore and stroke. WOT Rpm 5300 - 5800. gear ratio 1.87:1. weight 366lb( the smaller 2 liter weighed 378lb. the 12lbs being the cast iron cylinder sleeves)

'80/'81 were seven petal fronts advertised at 225 hp.. '82 (last first gen. block) up went to five petal front at 200 hp rating...

can you post pictures of power head and trim pump?.. '82 to '83 was end of "first generation V6 production.. different blocks, trim systems, oiler and etc... sometimes tha manuals can be a little confusing for those years since they "combine" several years.. if pump and motor are one unit mounted in tha boat and a "two hose" system justa 'bout any "in tha boat" pump/motor will work.. even Mercruiser tilt/trim pump/motors... may have to visit a local hyd. shop for right hose/fittings to match...
power head (both sides and rear)and trim pump pics would go a long way to a good id of exactly what ya have..........

also there is a "build date" stamped at tha bottom of #2 on tha block half close to where tha case halves split.. kinda right behind tha "bend" in tha timing arm.. will be 1/8" numbers.. m/d/yr... might be hard to see but its there.

This is some great info. Thanks everyone. I will post some pics tomorrow, the motor is at work.
I do not have the external tt pump it was glassed into the boat I took it off( the owner would not let me cut it out) it did only have 2 hoses. From what I recall it was a square motor on top and a round soup can looking bottom end.
