Hey!

Kind of dumb question, but do I just simply push the black part of the rod in the picture, into the drain in the live well?

Its a tight fit, I would have to force it in..

I assume the water drains from the top to keep the water fresh in the livewell?

Yup...should be snug to prevent leaking at that connection. When the water level reaches the top of the tube, water will begin to drain keeping a continuous flow of fresh (salt) water to the well.

You should also have an adjustable knob on the incoming water supply to regulate it at the right volume coming in that matches the water going out. Too slow coming in and the fish die. Too fast coming in and the live well overflows.

That little "tube" is called a standpipe. Allows you to run your livewell pump all day with out over-flowing the livewell. A lot of us down here in FL will run the pump from the moment the boat goes in the water until we pull out...

A little lube on the O ring helps. Make sure you check, where the overflow goes, if in the inside bottom of the boat, not a good idea to keep it running all day. :)

Stolen verbatim from post #3. Nice...

At the end of the day when you pull the standpipe to drain the livewell, make sure you don't still have any live bait hiding in there.

Every once in a while I blast water down the drain with a hose. It clears out any minnows that managed to find their way down the drain.
