Call me a gluten for punishment. I seem to have caught the dreaded MBS. The newest addition is this 18 footer. I have no information on year or model and hope that the wealth of knowledge on this site can point me in the right direction. I could not pass up the opportunity to bring this girl home. The PO bought her for the motor so she has no motor, but the price was perfect. I got it for free, but had to remove the engine for the owner. Couple hours of work for a gutted hull in great shape other than the pealing paint was a great trade.Starcraft 18' 005.JPGStarcraft 18' 004.JPGStarcraft 18' 001.JPGStarcraft 18' 002.JPGStarcraft 18' 003.JPG

Couple more photo's.

Notice the PO painted everything to include the rub rail. The paint looks to be an interior paint or maybe the PO just didn't do any prep work and the paint couldn't adhere to the old paint. Either way it will all get stripped off. I am thinking of going with the plain aluminum look.

looks like all of the above. crappy prep, wrong paint, and obviously LOTS of salt exposure. you got a job ahead. at least you won't have to go through the stage of finding out it's WORSE than you thought when you brought it home..... but i suspect you'll find too much pitting for the bare-naked look to work well

Thanks for all the reply's. The trailer is in rough shape so I will have to find another.

Any guess on model or year? The last two owners bought and sold for the motors so there is no paperwork on the boat.

She looks like an early Holiday, maybe. Before you drop any money in her, check into getting her titled/registered. Lack of paperwork and inability to use the boat are the most common reasons for free boats.

agree with GA. looks almost identical to my '65 Holiday. also agree with him on the title issue. at least get a bill of sale from "seller" (i prolly should call him the donor, but around here that term gets Jas stroking his chainsaw...) so that if you need to go through one of the title services out of Maine, you can.

Re: New to me Starcraft 18'

I got some good news from my town hall. They were able to pull up the last registered owner by the registration numbers on the hull. It is a '64 and I will be able to register it with no problems.

GA and Barato2-- question for you both. Looking at other Holidays I noticed most have a single knee brace and 2 stringers to support the deck, however mine has 3 knee braces and a single stringer. Did Starcraft change up the knee brace and stringer configuration over the years or could this be another model??? Thanks for any insight you all can provide.

excellent! that "paper" step can often be the hardest.

on your other Q, i dunno. just speculating, i could see that you may be right....like maybe they deleted the extra knee braces to save $, and added the 2d stringer? the guy who might know is North Beach, our resident SC historical expert. either way, the extra knee braces are nice if you plan to fish big water....mine came with one and i added two more. where are you located and what do you have in mind for the boat?

Re: New to me Starcraft 18'

I am up in Maine and boat on lakes and the ocean. There are tons of near shore islands that are fun to spend an afternoon swimming, exploring the island and fishing. I have a '63 SC that I am converting to dual consoles and removing the covered bow so I can install a casting deck and trolling motor. I am unsure of the model but it is a 16 footer. It also has 3 knee braces and a single stringer.

I have three braces and single stringer and covered bow and it's a 16 foot Nassau. But you have a few differences from mine. The windshield, gunnel vents, lack of a rear facing bow vent and side panels are all different from my Nassau. But after 50 years of owners anything can happen to these oldies.

Do you have a hatch on the bow?

Re: New to me Starcraft 18'

Thanks for the info guys. I have covered her up for the long Maine winter. No room in the garage to work on her until I get the 16 footer done and out of the garage. Looking forward to a spring launch. It has been almost two years since I had the 16' in the water. Time to get her done.
