New to Merc and need Motor Purchase Advice

I just gave my forwell's to the Johnny/Evinrude forum, who has been exceedingly helpful with my old motor. I'm planning to upgrade this month to a newer boat/motor and need some advice since I'm new to Mercury outboards. (plenty of jonny-rude's). I'm looking at a 1999 Mercury 115 ELITPO. Any Advice out there as to what to look for before purchase, and what other short of gotchas this motor may have?? Thanks. Fallen Rock

Find out if there are any Mercury "service bulletins" for this motor. This will give you the major items to be aware of.

Oh boy can i tell you something to check before you make the purchase. Assure yourself you can drop the gear case for water pump replacement.If the shaft is seized to the power head you will have big expensive problems. With the unit dropped, go ahead and replace the pump. Might sound like its out of left field but do it. regards fred
