new to outboards engines? need help

hello ans thanks again for the help Im new to outboards I used to have I/O boats and now Im looking forward to get a boat with a outboard engine, the size of boat Im looking is a 21-23 foot what should I look before I buy any outboard engine?, should zi bring my tools and check the compression on the cilinders what else should I look? thanks...

Don't buy a Chrysler or Force. Check compression. If that's good, pretty much anything else is fixable. I'd definitely want 150HP+ on a boat that size.
