I've never dealt with outboards until last weekend when the wife and I bought an old 23' Lonestar with twin Johnson 70s. A couple nights ago, we took it out to do some testing on some adjustments I made. All went fine but we ended up loading the boat onto the trailer in the dark. That got us into discussion regarding adding some cabin lights to the boat, along with a spotlight to keep us off all the logs floating down the Ohio river. In addition, we had already been discussing which stereo we were going to put in the boat since it came with the wiring and speakers, but no stereo.

Now I find out that these charging systems only put out 6 amps each???

I know that I can run a bank of deep cycle batteries separate from the starting batteries, and be fine for the most part by simply charging when we get home...but surely there's an upgraded charging system available...isn't there???

I apologize if there are already 379 threads on this same topic. I did a few searches and didn't find any good info.

Thanks,
Phillip

They may have made a 9 amp kit for it but I don't think anymore out put. Somebody will probably chime in with more info.

sounds like dual batteries and a switch is your best option.

Use LED bulbs for your lighting. They draw very little current.

Most people complain about overcharging with the 6 amp system. But yeah, be reasonable with your expectations.
