I know this is gonna be really funny but, i just picked up a Stamas I think 20' 1980's with a 225 johnson VRO ( what does VRO stand for). I got it as a gift so i didnt get the title for it yet but i have the boat in my possesion.

I'm not sure where to put the oil. in the gas? in a tank? I was told both.

i took all the #'s i could find on the boat

Stamas Boats
Tarpon Springs FL.
21131
280 max. HP
8 Cap.

On the stern bracket i got

J25TLCD

G7164286

this is my first outboard.
The boat runs beautiful, the steering a little stiff but im not sure if it has power steering. or i need to lube it up.

Also it has electric trim now when i raise it all the way up or even to go back down it takes a few seconds before it starts to move. i was thinking it might need fluid ??

I will post up tomorrow the year and the feet.
I took a shot on the #'s i took off the boat to see if anyone knows.

Also if anyone could direct me where i could find more information on this boat from a web site or from books.

I am going to buy the chiltons book on the motor.

Thanks in advance for any help and dont laugh at me too hard for the lack of info :)      albertbklyn@hotmail.com

Albert,

VRO stands for: Variable ratio oiling. It is oil injected.

You only put oil in the oil tank, not in both.

Personally, If it were mine, I would have the engine checked out, or do the services yourself to include:

1. Dump the old oil out of the tank.

2. Remove the filter sock and replace it.

3. Refill with new good TCW-3 oil.

4. Run 50:1 mixture in fuel tank (one pint TCW-3 oil mix/six gallons fuel) until you verify oil useage from VRO tank.

5. Replace the water pump.
