Both my wife and I were into boating before we were married. I traded a 1970 Grew 234 (set up for Great Lakes salmon fishing) for a 1997 17' Tempest bowrider with 60hp Merc OB 10 years ago then got rid of that one (don't miss it at all!) when we started having kids. Now that the kids are older, we wanted to get back into boating as a family so we looked around and decided on a few makes and models. The Rinker 192 was our #1 choice and we were able to get this one (a 2005 with 60 hours in mint condition) with matching trailer. It will be used for cruising, tubing, skiing, etc. and will be kept on a trailer.

Fit, finish and construction from my limited perspective is excellent. I have completely detailed it and haven't found any major issues as far as construction or abuse is concerned. The Volvo 4.3L GL SX drive even has factory warranty on it 'til 2011!

The first day out was pretty rough on the water. Even with the drive trimmed all the way down, porpoising occurred frequently. Also, having smaller children (6 & 8), I found that the planing speed was a little fast for them when they were tubing (22 mph). My wife also complained that the wake was too large for slalom skiing. After reading this forum, I got a set of SX Smart Tabs. The transom design on the Rinker made the installation a bit of a challenge as I wasn't able to install them under the swim platform "bump out". There is a huge overhang which prevented me from mounting them as far out as I would have liked for improved lateral stability but the spread between tabs is still about 36".

Installation was easy. I haven't had a chance to test the boat yet. I will report back after this weekend.

This is a great forum! Plenty of info and very knowledgable members! Thanks!

sweet glad you like your boat!! as far as porposing goes, maybe get one of those stingray fins that mount to the cavitation plate on the motor? I have one on my 192 and i dont porpose like it used to and i can trim it out more withouth cavitation! welcome!

Re: New to Rinker and iBoats

As promised, here's my experience with the new SX Smart Tabs..........

Set the tabs up on hole #3 as recommended. Went out on Lake Simcoe with plenty of chop and boat wakes.....

1. Very quick to plane.
2. Significantly reduced planing speed (from 22 mph to 15 mph).
3. Significantly reduced porpoising.
4. Could run at higher trim angles...had to usually run full trim down before.
5. Reduced wake.

The next day, I went out on a flat lake. Once again, same performance but if anything, the boat seemed to plow a bit. I could not trim the bow up enough at WOT and also seemed to lose top end speed. I have repositioned the tabs to hole #2 (reducing pressure) and will try again.

This was the best $129 I have ever spent! I would highly recommend this product to anyone experiencing the issues I had with the boat when I first got it.

this is a great forum, members solved my fuel problem, I just got my 94 Rinker Captiva 190 last year and am amaised of the performance, I had a Bayliner, I cannot belive the difference, I can run thru chop full speed, the Bayliner would beat you up, it would sound like someone beating on the boat with a board, the Rinkers hull is very quiet, I live in Washington state on the columbia, never heard of Rinker untill I bought one in Portland Ore, I have one of the only 2 Rinkers in the area, kinda funny the other is owned by a friend down the street, didnt know it untill last weekend when I saw him on the river, I find it hard to believe that more people on the west coast dont own them, Want a great boat, get a Rinker, Happy Rinkering
