I finally made my first baot purchase. Since my Dad sold his last bay boat I started thinking about getting a boat of my own. I am not much of a fisherman, and my wife has been wanting a cruiser. I didn't want to spend a lot of money since I have yet to determine how much time we will spend on the water. I also wanted something to pull the family kids around while we're out. I didn't mind buying a bit of a project if need be as long as it could see the water soon.

Well, after we decided to look it didn't take long to find what we were looking for. Yesterday we purchased a 19' 1989 Bayliner Capri Bowrider. I believe it's a model 1901 from what I can tell, but I'm no expert. The motor is an outboard Force 125. I will be the 3rd owner. The guy I bought her off of has had her since 1998. She's been mostly kept covered and under cover when out of the water at his camp. The interior is great, albeit a little dirty, and the floor and transom are solid. She does need some polishing, vinyl cleanup, new speakers and maybe a radio without cassette . There's probably some other little stuff, but the rest is in great shape!

Here she is!! ---> My Bayliner

Welcome to iboats!

Your boat is a 1901 Capri Ski, and a real beauty! i don't think I've ever run across anyone who owns one in the forums I frequent. Those attachment points at the stern are for the ski tower that was included with the boat from the factory. In case you didn't get an owner's manual with it, here are some stats:

Centerline length: 19'3"
Beam: 7'3"
Approximate weight with motor: 1470#
Fuel capacity: 21 gallons
Draft, motor up: 9"
Draft, motor down: 2'2"
Bridge clearance: 3'6"

If you have any questions about the motor, post them here. There are some guys who hang out there who have absolutely encyclopedic knowledge of Force motors.

Re: New to the forum and my first boat

Thanks for the info. I did get an owners manual already from Bayliners customer support, but I think I still need the supplement for this particular boat. I am glad to have the information you supplied. I do need to get info on the engine and have seen on here that some have gotten manuals from Clymer. Since I was a tech for so many years and still work inthe auto service trade I will likely do my own maintenance and repairs if I can. I am sure I will be posting some questions if i can't find the answers on my own.

I'm also a first boat/first poster! I'm hoping you can help me since I didn't get an owner's manual with it...

Here are some pics:

The guy I got it from says it's 18'. It has a 140HP Merc I/O. I know it's a 1981 from the hull number, but unsure of the model name or number. I'd like to know so I can hunt down an Owner's Manual.

Any info/help/guidance is appreciated.

Nice looking boat. What I did was go to the Bayliner website and gave them the hull ID#. They emailed me a scanned copy of the owners manual. Someone on another site recommended going to the NADA website to help narrow down which model I have.

http://www.baylinercustomercare.com/ is Bayliner's site.

Re: New to the forum and my first boat

Thanks. I was impressed with how good the condition of the upholstery was. The only problem was (and still is a little) mildew staining on the upper surfaces. They came pretty clean though so I'm not complaining.

I just replaced the water pump impeller and water pump housing (it was cracked) and removed the thermostat (was recommended by a lot of people down here). I then changed the gear housing oil so i know it is in good shape. Last week I installed a new cd/am/fm stereo and speakers so now its ready for vacation! I'll add some pics of the stereo when I get some taken.

She's looks REALLY good, having and using those canvas covers really makes a difference when it comes to the carpet and upholstery.Spent the day cleaning up my boat, never got around to taking any pics but will post some soon.
