Hello
New to the list, just bought a 2008 185 GT. Have had it about two months and have about 15 hours on it. First boat, most fun I have had in year on the rivers and creeks of coastal North Carolina. Looked a different boats for about three months, narrowed it down, but went with the Glastron. Price was fantastic. Boat handles like a dream even in some choppy water. Went with the 3.0L Volvo, great on gas. Love blasting up and down the river.

Sunny Days and Fair Seas to Everyone.

Welcome and congratulations! I ordered one in the beginning of October. Most likely won't take possession until spring. Talk about torture. Did you get it new or used? What color and options? I'm green with envy that you have yours and your weather is good enough for boating. Season is pretty much over for those storing I/O outside in Iowa.

Hey JT185

I brought it new, had a bimini top put on it. It is blue and white. The weather has been great here last Thursday was 81 degrees and hardly a ripple on the river (water is still warm as well which my dogs love). I will be able to use it until about the end of November. Planning on putting a second battery in (my teenage son loves playing his IPOD in the stereo). Hope to get into some fishing, haven't since I was a kid in Rhode Island.

My youngest boy just turned 16. Will I need an extra battery for his gazillion ipod songs? I have two granddaughters, one of which at age 3, is already wishing for warmer weather so we can "go boatin' ". Hoping to get many years of fun in the sun.

I'm considering the GT 180 O/B with an E-tec 115 or 130. The 180 and 185 are practically the same boat from the rear bench seat forward, but do you know if there is much of a price or performance difference between the 180 and 185?

Re: New to the list - 2008 185 GT

I looked at both a 175 and a 185 with the outboard option, but like the feel and the the back sun bench/swim platform on the 185 in-board. I have two dogs (who love to swim) and getting them in and out of the boat is much easier. Many folks who have boats in this area have out-boards and they all recommended that way to me, but the 185 in-board just felt and handle so well that we jumped on it. I bought a 2008 in 2009 so I got a really good price. We were out on it yesterday for about 4 hours (74 degrees, but water starting to get a little cold) dogs still love it though. I have have about 18 hours on the boat, will probably put it up in the next few weeks. Good luck on your search. Recommend you test drive some boats before you buy, it will make a world of difference to you.

My understanding is that the OB motor will get you out of the hole faster, it's lighter weight and is way easier to maintain for the winter. Correct, 180 is the same boat as the 185 from the rear seat forwrad. When I was pricing boats, the OB versions were higher priced not to mention I didn't see any MX 170s or GT 180s in stock.

You looked at the SSV 175? I'm also considering the SSV 170 in addition to the GT 180. The SSV package would be about $7000 cheaper (new, MSRP) than the GT. My understanding is that you get more standard features with the GT, but do you think it is worth it? What made you pick the more expensive model?
