New To Us Boat Question

We bought our first I/O, an '06 Tahoe Q6, in December and other than a test ride, haven't used it yet. The plan is to take it to Florida in a couple of weeks in search of warmer weather. The boat has probably less than 50 hours on it. Would it be worth it and should I have the 100 hour service done before we go? My thought is that we would know what we would be starting out with as far as fluids and such. Thanks
Hal

Welcome and Congrats on the boat. I am no expert but I would spend the money, get the service and the piece of mind! Also, get the trailer checked as well - bearings, brakes and lights. Then go have fun and enjoy your new ride. Good luck! Be safe!

Re: New To Us Boat Question

If the boat is new to you, By All Means, unless you know for a fact what the PO told you is true.
If it is a fresh water boat and you are taking to salt then you can have them goop up the threads on the lower unit and waterpump (need to do an impeller so you will know it is not bad) to seal out the salt and corrosion. Water pump impeller should be changed every 2 years, period, if boat is driven or not. Never run (or even start) without water to the lower unit for engine and exhaust hose cooling.

Congrats on the boat!!! Have the service done. There's a lot to be said for peace of mind... And safety on the water;). Where in Georgia are you?

Re: New To Us Boat Question

Thanks guys. I'll be dropping it off in the morning. Peace of mind is exactly what I'm looking for. No salt water use in the plans but we do plan to take it down the Apalachicola River in May. We'll stop in Appalach and not go into the bay, though. I think the 100 mile run back up the river will be enough to flush out the motor on that trip.
Veritas, I'm about an hour south of Atlanta, what about you? My inlaws are in your corner of the state.

Enjoy yourself, hpeeler. If she were mine I wouldn't worry about the saltwater that much. 100 miles in freshwater? You'll be fine. Boats around here have been in saltwater for years and they don't seem to know any better.

I'm in Mitchell County, midway between Albany and Camilla. My In-Laws have a house on Lake Seminole. I plan on taking off from their dock to the ACF and down to the Gulf in the spring, and several more times throughout the season. Interested?

I would think the first 15 minutes back up the river will take care of the salt. The rest of the trip, for good measure;).
