Re: New tool

Hi Brian,

Yeah $400 looks a tad steep. But I will say this, Fein does make good stuff. I think that the infomercial also exaggerates how commonly the tool will be used. I think it belongs in that "you'll only need the tool once in a blue moon" category. But when you need it, it sure makes life easier

Re: New tool

I don't have one, have never used one, but have heard nothing but good things from people that do have them and use them.

Re: New tool

We have one at work. Great for precision cutting when you need to straight into a piece of wood, etc. However, blades are expensive and the tool is hella'spensive.

I will have to say though, they are bad *** to have around if you are looking for that extra tool to add to your chest. I'd have no qualms about owning one as I'd find uses for it. It falls into the line of having a Dremel or a Roto Zip, with the latter two having a bit more day to day utility with their accessories.

I can tell you from experience though, once you found a use for it, you'd never regret the purchase.

Re: New tool

there was a thread on fein tools here a while ago....it was said that fein was a really great tool manufacturer.....

the one featured looks good for a lot of uses......

but its to justify the coat......for that much you can get a compressor and add any tools you want !

well I went to the dremmel site uesterday and they have all the oscillating attachments that that fein tool has...So I think the dremmel can go teh same exact thing for MUCH less!

Re: New tool

I have one of these. It is a very high quality commercial grade tool as with all Fein tools.
You can get one for half that price, especially if you don't need variable speed. The accessories are steep too. It looks like they have included a fairly good amount in this particular package which accounts for the high price.
A three pack of saw blades retails for $120. I use it mainly for sawing. It can get into tight places and do very fine work.
I would purchase this again. It is one of the few electric handheld tools I have that I don't see ever wearing out - I've worn out many (routers, drills, saws, etc.)

Re: New tool

I wish I hadn't seen that! No doubt that tool can do many things well that can hardly be done without. I had to cut holes in the siding, this summer, to install new mounting blocks for outdoor wall lights. That would have been the tool to do the job. As it was, I had to chew out the corners with the tip of a reciprocating saw and a hammer and chisel. Very messy.

Another thing I had to do was to undercut the garage door jambs. They had been placed right down on top of the concrete and were sucking up water and deteriorating. Again all I could use, that close to the concrete, was a recip saw with a long flexible blade. It did the job but the cut was not neat and I could not control the height of the cut.

Re: New tool

I have a fein multimaster and it is a good tool. Much better then a dremmel I always said dremmels are for arts and crafts mostly.

Okay...now I know what I want for Christmas. Are you listening Santa? I think I've been a good boy...but the wife might argue that.

Re: New tool

I am a cabinetmaker and use my multimaster a couple times a week and on every installation. I bought it in 2000 and don't regret the purchase, but you can get them for less than $200.00, you don't need all the accessories they show in that pic in the ad you posted. The sander pad comes with all of them I believe, but other than that the most important attachment is the E-cut blade. Just remember that they are around $40 per blade. Dremel is now making a copy of the multimaster now that Fein's patent has run out.
They are cheaper and the blades are probably cheaper also. So, that would be another option.

By the way, I've never used the multimaster on my boat projects.

Re: New tool

Every “tool maker” or “house brand” in Europe has one of these in their product range. There are also a dozen different Chinese makers selling them here.

I did advertising for a Bosch version of it at least 15 years ago. They go from $15 to $300 in price. I love them for what they are, a nice small handy tool. Replacement accessories are in every DIY store in town and most fit all the "others" version. I use the cheap ones, blow them up every couple of years, and throw them away.

Last time I had a cast , the doctor cut it off with one of these.
