Hey guys,

The admiral and I just purchased a 2010 Ford 150 XLT Super crew with the 5.4L V-8 (3 valve) and upgraded tow package and frame and suspension. It can tow up to 11,300. The previous tow vehicle (2006 Explorer V-8) did a good job with the trailer / boat (about 4,400lb fully loaded) but the new 150 so far (one trip to the lake right after we bought it Saturday) is great. Could forget the boat is even back there! Reason we went Ford is (1) try to always buy American (except for my Infiniti) and (2) Ford didn't take any bailout money. Thanks for listening!

Photos have now been added.

We bought a new vehicle last year with the same two intentions. First on our list for little SUVs was the Ford Escape. The dealership we went to was terrible. Not Ford's fault at all, but we had cash in hand and they would knock $150 off the $22k pricetag. We ended up going to a Chevy dealership and getting an Equinox. Turned out to be a great car (so far...knock on wood. ;))

I've always liked Ford.

My family just purchased an Escape, and had the same experience at the first dealer. Ended up driving 3 miles to a smaller one and had great service. The escape has actually been a very good tow car for our 15' runabout. However it is no F150.

But Ford makes good trucks in my book. I had a ranger, and have used F150,250,350s for towing larger trailers and they all did very well.

FYI if applicable.......

I was just reading about some 3 valve Fords that have spark plugs that often break in half when removing.

Re: New Tow Vehicle

I've been a long time fan of fords. I've got a 1990 ranger that was bought brand new. It's got a ton of miles and is tired, but it still runs and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country again. If I were to buy new it'd certainly be a ford. Smaller dealers are sometimes better than the larger ones with regards to customer service, at least in my opinion. My current tow vehicle is a 1995 explorer, and I'm getting ready to pick up an '86 F-350 with less than 80K on it from my brother-in-law for my next tow rig. Bottom line is I'm a ford fan :D

Now if ford could just figure out how to make more than a couple flagship products in the states. The majority of ford vehicles sold in the US market are NOT made in the united states. (most are proudly assembled in mexico, at least that is what the sticker in my last ford said)

I haven't seen the numbers for awhile, but last I saw, toyota had a substantial lead over Ford as far as imported vs domestic assembled vehicles sold in the US.

Now now... don't be so sure its American made. A good number of those F-150's are made in Cuautitlan, Mexico.

If he would have bought a Tundra... there would be no question of where it was built. (Texas or 15 minutes up the road from me here in Indiana). ;)

Re: New Tow Vehicle

Ford has actually been building automobiles ALL OVER THE WORLD for close to 100 years, dunno how long Yota has been doing it but Yota also builds cars everywhere.
Ford world headquarters=America, Toyota world headquarters=Japan.

Re: New Tow Vehicle

i have always been A Ford guy, all 3 of my trucks have been fords, but I have to admit, chevys and gmcs seem to last longer.
They seem to be built better. And they def. get better gas milage.
they just seem more advanced than ford. Even thou certain things are bound to break, like eletronic 4wd switches. I will never get one again.

Re: New Tow Vehicle

but its not like we don't assemble foreign cars here too. Toyota has a lot of plants over here in the us.

Who cares if they are base over seas, they still give us work.

Re: New Tow Vehicle

Thanks again for all the comments guys. Much appreciated. And FWIW I do realize that Ford has assembly plants outside the US and that Foreign factories have plants inside the US. But, more important to me was the fact that Ford did NOT take any bailout money from us tax payers....guess the CEO wanted to keep flying in his Gulfstream....LOL

Boater from Dearborn, Michigan (home of the F-150) thanks you. Wouldnt trade mine for anything! The Tundra may be made in texas (by mexicans) I know because I helped build the plant, but the profits got to Japan> Ford didnt take buyouts but the banks people finance the cars with probally did
