I am in the process of overhauling a '72 Newman tri-hull. I have already removed the seats, floor and all of the foam due rot. I put in a new floor and am waiting for some $$ to put in foam and attempt to refiberglas the floor. The transom also looks like it has rotted out. Does it need to ripped out and redone? How difficult is it to do? Do I have to remove the outboat motor also?? Can I just remove all of the nuts and bolts and the wood from the interior and put the new cut transom in and then refiberglas it? Is this going to affect the fiberglas hull? SO MANY QUESTIONS...SO MANY THINGS...SO LITTLE ANSWERS

Re: New Transom? HOW?

sorry jailermac, but its going to be SO SO SO much easier to replace that transom after you remove the outboard. cant see much way of doing it without taking it off, its really not that hard to take your outboard off the boat.

Re: New Transom? HOW?

jailermac,<br /> Im redoing my transom right now too, it is sad but true..you do have to remove your moter to get to the transom and repair it. you most likely also have to remove the top half of your boat also, beieve me it makes it a lot easier, if not some other people on this forum have posted that they are doing it by just removing the splashwell, or by removing the outer skin of the back of the boat, the transom. I removed the top half off of my boat. let me know what you plan on doing and I would be more than happy to give you some tips. i am on the step of fiberglassing everything back together.
