I have a 1989 Evinrude 110 HP. Installed new trim gauge. seemed to work but the needle did not work smoothly when the arm on the solenoid was worked by hand. needle on the gauge also moved crazy when the arm on the solenoid was moved side to side on the solenoid. traced all wires to make sure no brakes. noticed a green wire was in the harness that went to the trim pumps the green wire was hooked up to the trim solenoid mounting bolts like it was being used as a ground any idea on the green wire? the trim solenoid has a white and black wire coming out of it. when traced it turns into to two black wires that hooks up to a terminal block in the motor. what is the ohm reading in the up and down position. repalce ment number for the solenoid?

Sounds like the trim sender is bad. A common replacement item on older engines.

Yes, and OMC is mighty proud of them ( $$$$ ). It's kind of crazy considering it's nothing more than a potentiometer with a plastic arm attached to it.

Thanks to all yep ($$$$) replacment number 0583358. Sort of OCD so would like to have it working not that it is needed. any ideas on the green wire? I did not post but once traced down it was not hooked to anything. What gets me is why it was in the wireing harness sleeve. do not think someone would have taken the time to run it through. looked in the manual it did not show it.
