Hello, long story but, I just bought a used boat with a gm 4.3 engine('90), OMC outdrive, went to look at it, they ran it for 20 minutes with muffs and everything looked great, no leaks anywhere, so I bought it. I brought the boat out with the kids to go tubing, got about 300 yards out and smelled something burning, looked in engine compartment and saw water streaming out of the engine on the right side just under the soft plug, below the head. i shut the boat off and thought for a second and checked the oil and it looked good. I started it back up and no more leak, but then crazy brownish mocca looking(water and oil mix) came spewing out of the engine and flooded the intake and carb. I do realize this engine is toast, my question is, what do I look for in a used motor? is one from salt water ok? just want to spend as little as possible! thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... You're starting the Race, with 2 broken legs,... OMC isn't most folks 1st choice...

Go get a junkyard Chevy/ GMC Pickup truck motor of the right Vintage....
Salvage what you can from the frozen motor to marinize it,...
Slap it together,+ get alittle time out of it before you Sell It...
