Hi Guys,
Does anybody know for certain if there's much price difference (without talking nickles and dimes here) In New and Used car prices depending of the region.

Specifically, I'm thinking about buying either a new Tacoma or maybe a used F150. I'm up here in MA now but moving to FL shortly. I'm debateing about buying up here vs down there. For ships and giggles I called the only Toyo dealer in FT Meyers and he does not stock any 4WD Tacomas or Tundras but has quite a few 2WD ones on the lot. I want 4WD. He tells me he can order anything I want, but if it's special order and not on the lot I doubt he'd wheel and deal.

Also, anybody have any recomendations on trucks 25Kish or less? :)

Totally anecdotal and probably unhelpful but.......my aunt/uncle are snowbirds. They always buy their new and especially used vehicles in FL.

In the NADA for Sept, in Florida, a 2010 Tacoma Tacoma V6 4wd base Access cab $26575 clean retail. In MA it's 26,450. Hope that helps.

If you're talking new there is $0 difference regionally. Back in the day the difference was in the shipping costs. Further from Detriot cost more but now that's gone.

Not much of a difference with used. Certainly not enough to make a special trip somewhere if you're talking price alone however, if I could buy a used vehicle down south vs. northeast I'd go south for 2 reasons. No road salt in the winter and the roads aren't as bad in general. That means your used car hasn't hit all of the potholes and should, in theory be a tighter vehicle.

Not a lot of difference but it appears that the new car sell prices do vary by City, State and Region.

New car prices also vary by how many of a particular model a particular dealer sells. The more Toyota Tacomas a dealership orders from the factory, the better the price they get.
For example, where i grew up, one dealership sold a TON of Cavaliers, and ALWAYS had the best prices on them. He said it was because he bought so many, that he could get them cheaper than his competition.

I agree with the above, if I was buying used, I would buy a FL vehicle over a MA vehicle. One thing to check closely though, if the truck has been used to back a boat into salt water in FL, make sure the hitch, rear bumper, and the rear of the frame are clear of rust.

I bought a used 3000GT from Florida and that will be the last used car I buy from there. The paint was horrible (constant waxing to keep the shine), the black rubber trim was faded, even the glass felt funny. I'm 99.9% sure it was because of the salt in the air/rain. I've owned 3 of those cars, and never had the same issues with the other 2. (the other 2 came from KY).

With that said, I wouldn't buy a used vehicle from up North either.... for the same salty reasons... :)

Good luck in your purchase, and FWIW, I've had 2 Tundra's and loved them both.

Dealers don't get special prices ... same costs for all dealers. Some are volume dealers and will sell for a small amount over invoice (dealer invoice is different than the net invoice based on the hold-back - amount the dealer gets back from selling the car, usually on a quarterly basis - to the dealer). Cost of the new car is the same, depends on how much the dealer wants to "deal."

Used prices do vary by region, depending on demand and condition. Usually not a lot, but there is more demand for a 4wd vehicle in harsher climates, raising the prices of these vehicles in late fall and winter. But during the summer they remain fairly constant with milder climate areas. Lots of used "northern cars" dumped in Fl, so if you buy in Florida, be careful what you are buying.

My reccomendation is Nissan Frontier. I have beat my like a mule expected it to go above and beyond and it has delivered flawlessly. I have pulled almost 4,000 lbs with it before without problems. I bought mine with 24k on the clock and paid 17,500 for it. Sticker brand new with paperwork was $27,000 but was three thousand less than a comparable tacoma.
