New Volvo Loses Oil

I saw another thread about a Volvo losing oil due to the plug coming out so I wanted to relate my experience.

My 3.0 liter Volvo Penta has approx 5 hours on the engine. Boat and Engine are brand new. This was the second time on the water.

While at half throttle I heard the engine change pitch then noticed the oil pressure dropping. I shut down the engine and discovered oil in the compartment under the engine. Also oil was found in the storage hatch in the middle of the boat.

Got towed and called Volvo dealer. He can't start work on it until Tuesday (7/14) but said especially with the oil in the storage hatch it sounded like a blown oil line. Other than the engine changing pitch I heard no loud noises or alarm.

I know its difficult to diagnose a problem on the internet but does that sound right to any of you guys...the blown oil line? The dealer also thought they had a recall on that model year (2007) as well. Hope Volvo doesn't give me static about the warranty.

Thanks and be safe on the water!

Volvo 3.0L engines do not have oil lines that go through other compartments.

Let them look at it first, and find out what the problem really is. We sure can't tell from here.

Sounds like that is what it is and with that much oil it worked it's way through the bottom into the other compartment. Maybe even an oil filter that made it's way loose?? Either way without the alarm sounding you should be OK (low oil alarm should have kicked in so keep your fingers crossed). I wouldn't be too worried as of yet. Like stated earlier wait till they take a look at it. Like I always say to someone buying a new boat there is really no testing that they do to them. YOU learn all the problems when YOU take it out! So make sure you use it. I learned the HARD way when I bought a NEW Ski Nautique and had the tranny go out right after the warranty was up with just under 60 hours on it. Hard and expensive lesson to learn.
