hi everyone, looks like im getting myself into another project without having finished the first one.

its a think a 15 ft wahoo 1989 with galvanized trailer for 1500 US, for dominican standards a great price as all boats need to be imported and pay luxury tax.

condition from my point of view is average with no need to repaint, only serious cleaning, all electricity, bilges wood and seats needs to be replaced

what im mostly interested to know is if there is a lot of wood in this hull or is it a fiberglass mold only ?

at this age i would assume the transom to be rotten, anyways the floor etc seems to be pretty solid.

does anyone have more details about this boat as weak points or stuff i should check before buying it, as im not looking forward to another complete stringer+floor+transom replacement. been there done that.

where is the bilgepump located and how can i reach it.

thanks a lot for any help

That looks like a ski pylon. Used for towing skiers, wake boards, etc. It mounts the tow rope high above the outboard, and locates the load point inboard where the boat handles better than if the tow rope is mounted to the transom.

Do you live in the Dominican? What part?

Regarding the boat - looks like a project for sure!

Wow $1500, really. I can't see that boat bring $500 here in the states. As far as information, don't know much about wahoo boats but this one looks like a Boston Whaler knock-off so it probably would ride pretty good and be rather stable for a small boat. I would assume it has some amount of wood in it, as most boats do. You could drill small holes (core samples) that would tell you whats underneath the deck and if it is wet or rotten. Without doing this, there's no way to know if you will have to do a deck+stringer replacement. Bilge pump, if it has one, would probably be below the splashwell.

Re: new wahoo project info anyone ?

im located in the Sosua area, dominican rep northcoast.
most of the boating i do at luperon bay www.luperonmarina.com its just a very beautiful place, great for fishing wakeboarding etc. its also the largest sailing community in the country.

i will have to look into the rotten wood situation again, but still i already committed to buy the boat and wont step back now.

by the way its 1500 us with the galvanized trailer, a trailer here new sells for 3000 us, used almost impossible to find.

wahoos are supposed to be decent boats. My understanding is, however, that they are foam lined as opposed to foam filled and unibonded as are whalers and Mckees of the same period.

Trailer definitely sweetens the deal quite a bit, especially if they normally go for $3000!! Sounds like this could be a sweet bay/fishing boat. Have you decided what size motor you will put on it?
