darn, couple of big problems after starting it, suzuki 30 horse, 1989. i put new water pump on, first time, but its not pumping water. whats the problem? oh, went to shut motor off, the key would not shut it off, nothing would, so i unconnected the gas line. it ran for about 6 to 8 min im guessing without water pump working.

could the hole be clogged? or i didnt put in on right. thought really on one way to put it on.

Did you install it with the blades pushing in the right direction? This suzuki have a kill switch no? Hopefully you didn't fry the motor, you could have pulled the plug wires (with a piece of wood, shocking isn't nice)

My new water pump (1989 15hp Yamaha) didn't flow out of the tell-tale until the thermostat warmed up enough. The tell-tale is on the output side of the thermostat.

I took the lower unit out last night after it happened, there was some water inside the water pump....I took a wire and went through the water hole about 5-7 inches after i stopped the motor.............My wife said it only ran for about 3-4 minutes.............
I inspected the new water pump, it looked fine................it didnt look like it got heated up.............On the ear muffs, I wonder if i had it backwards, the hole side of the ear muffs not on the inlet? Is there an inlet and outlet?

The motor hasnt been started in 3 to 4 years.....................

I didnt change out the thermostat..............one of the things I didnt do.........

Dude your all over the place with this repair. go back to the impellar replacement, make sure you went through the steps according to a service manual to replace it. If you miss something go over your install to make sure you did it correctly. Check your T-stat if any salt-build up or it may be ok. Don't just replace everything at once. A lot of this outboard motor maintence is common sense. Good luck and keep us posted if something weird goes on.

I dont have a service manual...........i know, i know, i should get one............Where is the Thermostat at on 89 suzuki 30 horse?

On most motors it is located at the top of the head

Left of the top spark plug ... see my pic ... the round cover with 3 bolts ....
