I have a 1992 evinrude 60 hp E60TLENE i installed a new impeller in the motor at the begining of season and it worked fine with ears. in my infinite wisdom the first time out i wanted to make sure batteries were charged i ran the motor dry for about 1 minute. i know stupid move burned up the new impeller. On to the real problem, i dissasembled the motor and replaced the impeller, melted but mostly intact. The housing was also bubbled slightly so i replaced the whole kit, thermostat and all . now it wont pump. ive checked the obvious mistake areas like impeller direction, water tube, impeller key and seal placement.Still no luck what next ?

MAYBE YOU CAN TRY TO BLOW AIR OR WATER THROUGH THE TELLTALE HOLES.

In addition, the wear plate under the impeller may have melted rubber stuck to it (assuming it wasn't replaced after your experiment with dry-running). I recently ruined an impeller because of a leaking housing, and found that the plate was messed up. You can scrape the stuff off or replace the plate. Unless the plate is smooth, it's possible that the pump is not drawing water properly -- and you could ruin another impeller as well.

Remove the Tstat temporarily, and try it.Often stuff in the block will catch on it,and block the cooling system. Do replace it tho when done. The engine needs the tstat to regilate block and head temps.

All the above are great sugestions, and I can only add (DONT LAUGH), mudawber nests. The little critters love carbs, exausts, and water intakes for some reason, and will build a waspy-condo in the intake.

and let me add: mouse nests. I just got finishing tearing apart a motor three times to get it all cleaned out (and I'm still not sure). Of course, if I had checked in the first place....
