This past weekend was the big boat show in Minneapolis. As we walked through the miles of boats on display, my bride and I longed to be on our beloved Winner, Cougar - a classic 1972 runabout. Since the lake is covered by 14 inches of ice, to relieve my suffering, I built a web page in her honor. You can see pictures of our obsession and a history of Winner Boats at Norm's Winner

Great looking older boat. Norm. Interesting info, too... I restored a 1967 Wellcraft runabout a few years back. Just needed a little TLC. I hear you about the obsession part. Don't worry, the ice will be gone soon...

Nice boat, I'll be thinking of you when I'm on Roosevelt Lake in a few weeks, such a nice boat to be sitting idle.

Re: New Web Page for My Winner, Cougar

Tonka, I had a late sixties-early seventies 16 foot outboard Winner. It had a lot of the basic styling of your 18 footer, so I think it was close in age. Very light and strong boat, excellent for lakes and rivers. It's drawback was that it had a straight-vee hull. The hull road flat in the water, rising higher as the boat speed increased. This caused the engine to ventilate in turns, at high speed. Also, if you observed the inner part of the fiberglass hull in the bow, while at speed on a choppy day, the hull deflected enough to scare you that it would crack. It never did though. I ran a 85HP Merc on that hull, although never at WOT(~50 MPH). I was afraid the boat would break if I hit a wave at that speed.
