New yamaha engine?

I am likely buying a brand new, 2013, Yamaha outboard. It is still in the box on a skid.... the dealer never opened it when it came in. Needless to say I got a good deal.

Which brings me to my question. He is just leaving it on a skid and shipping it to me. What all do I need to do to prep this? Also should I change the oil since it's been sitting for 3 years?

Any help is much appreciated!

motors do not come with fluids/oil in them from the factory.
keeps from having spills while being shipped

without a realer prepping it and doing all of the checks and filing the check list with Yamaha ,you will not have a Yamaha warranty from what I have heard/read

Best to buy/get a Yamaha repair manual and owners operation booklet for your specific motor and read/study up on it so as to get the start-up as smooth and trouble-free as possible....you apparently got a good deal on this 2013 outboard and it would be a shame to screw something up.....and you'll need these books going forward anyway....Good Luck!

I just asked, they will prep it, and then drain the oil and ship. Thanks!

Yeah right, they will ship it, fill out the PDI and register it in your name. In other words, they will lie on the form which could cause a problem if you run into an installation problem. Because they are saying they checked everything out after installing and explained operations to the customer before delivery. They are only suppose to shop to an authorized dealer.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but they are an authorized dealer. I can have them so to another dealer, but from what I've read as long as they prep it the warranty stays valid, regardless if they explain how to operate it. That's what the manual is for. I could be wrong though. Any help is appreciated as to how to go about this.

Is this a portable tiller handle engine or an engine that requires remote controls and installation?

I found one locally 3 years newer for the same price. It's tiller but they are converting it to remote steer.

PDI requires them to test operate the engine on the vessel, record the operating RPMs, and other operating features. They are to give it to you fully serviced and ready to run. There is a full page of checks that are to be made. How do I know, I've had customers ship engines from other dealers to me and when I go to register the PDIon the engine, I find they were already filled out by other dealers yet they were still crated.
