I've never read the New York Times, but I occasionally get a peek at the front cover as I stand in line for an occasional coffee at Starbucks. I've always heard that it is one of the bastions of liberal journalism. Over time that occasional glance at a headline has told me all I need to know in order to confirm this assesment in my mind.

This morning the cover featured a picture of an Arab man washing the dead body of one of the victims of the recent bombings of Iraqis by religious extremists. "What was so unusual about this?" I wondered. Why was it so disturbing to me when these things have been happening so often in the past few years? Besides the fact that this was a very gruesome photo of an almost completely naked dead body being washed, there was something else wrong. Then I remembered something that I had heard Michael Savage, the ultra conservative radio talk show host, say once. The liberal media is actually more simpathetic to the "muslim extremist cause" than they are to our own self preservation. I realised at that moment that I had never once seen such a picture of the dozens or even hundreds of jews that have been killed in suicide bombings by Muslim extremists, wrecked buses and cars, yes, but no dead bodies. I've never once seen a picture of a dead US soldier displayed on the cover of the New York Times or any other newspaper for that matter.

I have no doubt the U.S. media is bias toward the liberal side. But, am I making an unfair assessment of this? After all, this assessment was made based on an occasional glance at a front page. Also, Michael Savage is a bit on the extreme side.

What do you think?
