First let me say that I am a long time boating/fishing fan, first time boat owner. This past weekend I bought a 1985 Bayliner Capri 1600 Bowrider w/85hp Force Outboard. The boat was bought from my brother-in-law's parents, who were the original owners. This boat has seen the water 3 times, and has sat in storage for the past 18 years. There is literally not a spec on this boat, except some minor sticker peeling.
After the initial down payment, my BIL's parents took the boat to a local marina and had them put a new ignition in it along with looking at the motor. It was found that the motor had a bad power pack, but after doing some research I found the part for less and figured I could install it myself. Well, when I went to pick the boat up I realized that I never asked which power pack was bad, so I called the marina and was told, "I don't know, check for spark". So I got the boat down here and after some more research, tonight I finally got the motor to turn over and run. I am taking it tomorrow to the marina down here for some final tweaking. Which brings me to my last thought.
I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone on this forum for the great information and insight into and about the boating world. It was a lot of help for a newbie like myself. Secondly, I want to thank iboats.com for their incredible service through the parts department. Some of the best customer service I have ever gotten through an online community. I will post some pictures of the boat tomorrow if this cursed rain ever stops falling.
