Newbe Mercruiser I/O owner With my first easy question :)

I finally found a boat with all the things I was looking for including the Low Price.
It's A 1990 Ultra open bow 350 mercrusier and Alpha 1 drive.



As I clean up the little issues I find a 2" strap around both motor mounts long enough to atatch to the rear tow/ski mount
I'm thinking it is either a quick fix for the stressed tow mount or something used to remove the motor when the time comes. (anyone have a clue to what it is?)
Second the power steering hose goes into and out of a little black pill looking canister (pictured right behind the motor mount) which looks to be a water line heading out to the drive??
Is this a p/s cooler of sorts? one of the p/s hoses/lines (pictured) is dripping into the bilge.

That's the power steering oil cooler.

The strap shouldn't be there. Pulling on the motor mounts for anything is not good.

I guess on the plus side it wasn't the oil pan gasket like I first thought

The strap must have been the previous owners creative way to assist the original ski/tow hook that has issues.

On a side note
This new 627 page Mercrusier manual should make for some good reading
