Never really fished before in my life. Some day would like to fish off shore for red snapper. Only use that fish because I like to eat it. What should I do first? How do you learn or where? What equipments best? Help?

Hi, Old Fish, You have a great boat there to go bottom fishing. I would start with a book. Florida Saltwater Fisherman puts out several that include gear, knots, baits, techniques, etc. Same techniques work in your area too.

Charts will show wrecks and artifical reefs, study them along with a book.

Have Fun and Good Luck!

To bad you can't keep red snapper here in SC. I did really well with them last year and I must admit it was hard to throw them all back.

be sure to check the CURRENT regulations because red snapper changes a lot ... federal regs require use of a circle hook and you must have a dehooker and venting tool on board ... once your past that find structure in at least 70' deep ...use either live or dead bait such as squid, cigar minnows, mullet, ect....find where the fish are in the water column with your fish finder or start at the bottom and work your way up ... another method is to start a chum line
